The Inspector –General of Police (IGP) David Asante-Apeatu, has been fingered in the ongoing chieftaincy crisis at Akropong in the Eastern Region.
According to B.S Opoku; spokesperson for the newly installed chief  of Akropong traditional area, by name  Nana Kwadjo Kese has dully installed.
The Police is deeply  involved in the crisis that has reared its head in the area he alleges.
He said the IGP is also a royal from the area who is taking sides in the choice of chief for the arera.
He said a counter chief by name Kwesi Akufo, a 65 -year old was installed the very moment the IGP came to town.
B.S Opoku fingered the IGP in an interview with Kwame Afrifa-Mensah on the Epa Hoa Daben show on Accra-based Happy FM.
‘We know what is going on as the Queen Mother is enjoying heavy support for her illicit activities from the IGP.
As we speak there are several armoured cars deployed into town guarding the said Kwesi Akufo, the self-styled chief’.
He alleged that anytime the IGP, who is also a royal from the area sneaks in into town  the supporters of the self-styled chief are emboldened to commit crime in the area.
He said the choice of Nana Kwadwo Kese was from the Sakyibea family headed by Lela Nana Agyemang.
He explained that the Sakyibea family are the rightful heir to the Oforikuma paramount stool and the choice of Nana Kwadwo Kese was unanimously accepted by all the ruling houses in Akropong and the needed customary rites performed.
He warned anybody who is against the choice of Nana Kwadjo Kese can only go to court because the family head which proposed him has the Power  of Attorney akin to that of the High Court.
She is the only family head that has been gazzetted in the records.
He cautioned the IGP and the Queen Mother to be wary of their activities in the area since it is only one person who can ascend the throne.
He added that in terms of qualifications Nana Kawadwo Kese is better qualified than
kwesi Akufu.
Even though Kwesi Akufu may be older than Kwadwo Kese, Kwesi  Akufu is a nephew of the current chief by tradition he revealed.
