The Interior Minister and Member of Parliament for Asawase, Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka, has urged the public to refrain from attacking fire officers and making prank calls to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS).

Speaking at the commissioning of the Pentecost Fire Station at Yesukrom, near Gomoa Fetteh in the Gomoa East Constituency of the Central Region on Wednesday, May 14, Mr. Muntaka identified prank calls and physical attacks on firefighters as major obstacles hindering the GNFS’s effectiveness.

He condemned the act of making false emergency calls, describing it as a dangerous habit that undermines the service’s critical operations.

To address this issue, Mr. Muntaka revealed that his ministry is collaborating with the Ghana Police Service to deploy police officers alongside fire personnel to incident scenes for their protection. Additionally, he mentioned that new public education campaigns will be rolled out to improve understanding of fire and general safety across the country.

He also announced upcoming regulations requiring that all fuel and gas station attendants undergo mandatory training and certification by the GNFS before employment. The same rule will apply to fuel tanker drivers, who must complete specific GNFS training before being permitted to operate.

Mr. Muntaka assured the public of his ministry’s commitment to ensuring the safety of all Ghanaians.

Meanwhile, the Member of Parliament for Gomoa East, Dr. Desmond De-Graft Paitoo, expressed his appreciation to the Church of Pentecost for constructing and donating the new fire station to the GNFS.

He noted that if more churches and institutions undertook similar initiatives, communities would see significant development.

Dr. Paitoo emphasized that Christianity should also involve social responsibility and giving back to society. He encouraged other organizations to follow the Church’s example and called on the GNFS to make full use of the new facility for the benefit of the people of Gomoa East.
