The Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to prioritizing the retooling of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) to enhance its operational capacity and improve working conditions.

During a visit to the regional headquarters of the GNFS in Tamale, Muntaka emphasized the importance of equipping the Service with the necessary resources to ensure effective service delivery across the nation.

He also condemned recent attacks on fire service personnel and disclosed that discussions are ongoing with the Inspector General of Police to provide police escorts for officers while on duty, to guarantee their safety.

In addition, the Minister revealed that negotiations are underway with the National Insurance Commission to secure insurance coverage for fire service personnel, aimed at boosting their welfare and providing adequate support in the line of duty.

Addressing land encroachment issues, Muntaka warned against the unauthorized sale and purchase of lands belonging to security services.

He urged individuals and organizations to respect the ownership and boundaries of such lands to ensure they are used for their designated purposes.

The Regional Commander, ACFO II Franklin Masiku, highlighted several challenges confronting GNFS in the region, including inadequate office space, limited resources, and logistical hurdles.

He expressed appreciation to the Minister for his dedication and proactive steps toward addressing these concerns to enhance the Service’s ability to protect lives and property.
