The Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, has announced a review of the curfew hours imposed on Nalerigu Township and its surrounding areas in the North East Region.

In a statement issued on Monday, January 5, 2026, the Minister said the decision was taken on the advice of the National Security Council and effected through an Executive Instrument.

Under the revised directive, the curfew will now run from 10:00 pm to 5:00 am, effective today, Monday, January 5.

The government has urged Chiefs, Elders, Opinion Leaders, the youth, and residents of the area to exercise restraint amid the challenges confronting the community.

The statement further called on the people to adopt non-violent means in addressing their concerns and to channel their efforts towards sustaining peace in the area.

Meanwhile, the Ministry reiterated a total ban on the possession and carrying of arms, ammunition, or any offensive weapons within Nalerigu Township and its environs.

Security agencies have been directed to enforce the ban strictly, with the warning that any person found in possession of such items will be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.

The Interior Ministry emphasized that the measures are aimed at maintaining law and order and ensuring the safety of lives and property in the area.
