Weekend Warriors, a film making company has opened its filmmaking competition to test for stamina and creativity within Ghanaian creative talents to represent the country at the 2023 world 48 Hour Film Competition.

The third edition of the Accra International 48 Hour Film Project will welcome people of all ages, who are skillful and experienced. The project will give participants the opportunity to write, shoot and edit a maximum of 7 minutes film in 48 hours starting 21st to 23rd July which will be scrutinized by pioneers of filmmaking.

The Ghanaian talents in the film space, including writers, producers and directors as well as creative editors would compete with each other with a finished film which will premiere on a big screen on 28th July 2023.

According to the producer of the Ghana Accra 48 Hour Film Project, Kingsley Nyarko, Filmmakers find it satisfying and thrilling to see their handiwork being recognized on big screens in front of a live audience.

“Last years winning film from Ghana won Best Visual Effect in Los Angeles, California and was screened at the just ended Cannes Film Festival. An experience they will never forget. It is even more rewarding to present your film in person to a global audience or a film festival for international distribution” he added.

All participating films shown are eligible for audience recognition and those that are submitted on time are judged for various awards by a local film makers panel including David Dontoh, Nana Yaa Serwaa Sarpong and Socrate Safo. The winning film to be the overall best film will be sent to the international 48HFP competition, Filmapalooza, to be screened and judged with over 135 city winners from around the globe and some chosen for Cannes Film Festival.

About 48 Hour Film Project

The 48 Hour Film Project is an annual film competition in which teams of filmmakers are assigned a genre, a character, a prop, and a line of dialogue, and have 48 hours to create a short film containing those elements. The competition has been active since 2001.
In the weeks after the 48 hours of filmmaking are complete, screenings are held in each city and a winner is chosen to represent that city at Filmapalooza—a festival that features “best of” screenings of the winners from each city.
Filmapalooza is hosted by a different city each year. The most recent Filmapalooza, in 2023, was held in Los Angeles, California. March 2024 will be in Lisbon Portugal!
