The Board Chairman of the newly promoted Ghana Premier League side, Bofoakwa Tano has urged club owners to invest in their traditional clubs in other to improve grass root football in Ghana.

Bofoakwa Tano sealed qualification to next season’s GPL after edging Eleven Wonders 7-6 on penalties after a 1-1 stalemate last Tuesday.

They return to the top flight after being absent for sixteen years.

Speaking in an interview on Happy 98.9 FM, the board chairman of Bofoakwa Tano was elated his club secured qualification to next season’s GPL but lamented about the investments made by club owners in setting up other football clubs other than channeling those funds to their traditional club.

“The club (Bofoakwa) was determined to qualify for next season’s GPL after such a long absence and I’m happy the club has achieved it. Two team’s from the Brong Ahafo region, Sunyami to be precise, BA United and Bofoakwa Tano FC haven’t tasted topflight football for a very long time and this hasn’t been helpful to the community commercially. When clubs like Asante Kotoko, Hearts of Oak, Great Olympics, Bofoakwa Tano are mentioned, that’s when we know big clubs are competing,” he told Joe Debrah on Happy FM’s Wamputu Sports.

According to him, much attention is not given to traditional clubs in Ghana which is alarming because developments of grass root football would eventually begin from that stage.

“The traditional clubs back in the days were, Abusua Dwarfs, All Blacks, Eleven Wise, Cornerstones…..where are all these clubs? I’m hearing clubs like Nations FC and others so where from these clubs”.
