Iran to partner Ghana to boost agriculture

The Iranian government has pledged to partner the Government of Ghana to grow the agricultural sector of the economy.
The Iranian Ambassador to Ghana Nosratolah Maleki made this pledge at celebration of the thirty-ninth National Day Anniversary of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Ghana.
He said aside partnering the country to boost agriculture to create jobs for the youth, the government of Iran intends expanding its medical facilities to other parts of the region.
It is view of this that the Iranian government has expanded the medical facility of Iran Clinic, adding that very soon the clinic will open branches in all the regional capitals.
He said trade relations between Ghana and Iran catapulted to fifteen million Dollars in 2017 stressing that Ghana and Iran have a long standing relationship when it comes to trade.
Representing the government delegation at the ceremony; minister for Inner-City and Zongo Development, Alhaji Abubakar Saddique Boniface said it is the hope of Ghana that succeeding anniversaries will witness the further strengthening of the bonds of cooperation and friendship existing between the two countries.
According to him, Ghana and Iran have enjoyed fruitful bilateral relations over the years and this was re-enforced with a number of positive developments in 2017.
‘His Excellency the Vice President, Alhaji Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia led a high-powered government delegation to Iran to participate in the inaugural ceremony of the re-election of the president of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Dr.  Hassan Rouhani.
Another significant milestone chalked in the course of the year, was the hosting by Ghana of the sixth session of the Ghana-Iran Permanent Joint Commission for Cooperation from fourteen to sixteen November, which witnessed the participation of fifty –member Iranian delegation from both the public and private sectors he said.
He noted that the session ended with the signing of a number of agreements and memoranda of understanding with strong emphasis on agriculture, trade and investment.
‘We encouraged Iranian companies to undertake more projects in the areas of manufacturing, value addition to primary produce, mechanized agriculture amongst others in line with the government’s objective of transforming the fundamental structure of the economy of Ghana from agrarian to an industrial one’ he said.
He expressed appreciation to the Iranian government for her assistance to Ghana over the years. The government of Iran has continuously assisted Ghana through the offering of scholarships to students of Islamic University in Ghana.
He stressed that the upgrading of the Iran Clinic to a polyclinic status forms part of the deepening of the relationship between the two countries.
At the Ministry of Inner-City and Zongo Development we are working assiduously within the mandate to help improve the living conditions of people living in the zongos and inner-cities by providing them with affordable housing he revealed.
