Member of Parliament for Wassa East Constituency and Ranking Member on the Roads and Transport Committee, Isaac Adjei Mensah, has dismissed claims that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s government built more roads than previous administrations.

Citing official budget statements, Adjei Mensah clarified that road construction achievements under various governments can be verified through annual budget reports, which detail infrastructure performance and expenditure. He stressed that the records available do not support the assertion that the current government outperformed its predecessors in road construction.

According to him, the records show that former President Jerry John Rawlings’ administration led the way in road infrastructure development with the completion of 19,000 kilometers of feeder, urban, and rural roads, validated and certified. This was followed by the administration of late President John Evans Atta Mills and former President John Dramani Mahama. He said, they collectively completed 15,508 kilometers of road during their time in office followed by former President John Agyekum Kufuor, who completed approximately 14,000 kilometers of road projects.

He contrasted these figures with the current government’s performance, stating that under President Akufo-Addo, a total of 6,977 kilometers of roads were constructed, covering feeder, urban, and rural roads.

Adjei Mensah reaffirmed that these figures are drawn directly from the national budget statements and indicated that more comprehensive details will be made available in the first quarter of 2025. He urged the public to rely on official government records when assessing infrastructure development across various administrations.
