The Juaboso District Police Command has successfully apprehended a suspected armed robber during a swift operation at a mining site near Sefwi Kofi Krom in the Western North Region.

Led by Inspector Ernest Adjetey, the Formed Police Unit (FPU) responded to a distress call about an ongoing robbery. Upon arrival, officers spotted five suspects hiding in a nearby plantation. The suspects attempted to escape, but with the help of the complainant, the police chased them.

Nineteen-year-old Maxwell Awuni was captured, while four accomplices managed to flee.

A subsequent search of Awuni’s residence in Sefwi Proso led to the discovery of a cache of weapons, including multiple firearms, live cartridges, face masks, and other tools used in criminal activities.

During interrogation, Awuni admitted to attacking the mining site earlier that morning, robbing a victim of gold concentrate known as “black.”

He also disclosed plans for another robbery at a different location.

Awuni remains in police custody, assisting with investigations as authorities intensify efforts to apprehend the remaining suspects.
