Second Lady of Ghana, Samira Bawumia has said she would rather be judged by the impact she makes with her position and not by her fashion sense.
Wife of the Vice President in an interview said, “I wish it wouldn’t be the preoccupation, because I do a lot of work that I will rather highlight.
“I mean if a woman is dressing well there shouldn’t be anything wrong with that. I think we should own our beauty and also make a difference.”
She also noted how delighted she is with how her choice of wardrobe promotes the businesses of those who make them.
“Sometimes I wear clothes and those who make it for me, their businesses boom and I’m happy for them because I’m also promoting their industry.”
Mrs Bawumia has been a sight to behold at many public events with her due to fashion style.
She is admired by some whiles others criticize her for her choice of clothes.
“Those who criticize her say her way of dressing does not reflect her religious values as a Muslim woman as well as her position as the wife of the Vice President.”
Mrs Bawumia says she is not bothered by such comments unless they are out to spite her.
She further added that the opinion of those in her inner circles about her fashion style is of much concern to her.
“I worry slightly about how sometimes the discourse goes because this politics turns to be sometimes a bit vicious.”
Mrs. Bawumia was recently made an Ambassador for the Global Alliance for Clean Cookstoves and joins former UN Secretary General Kofi Annan, Academy Award-winning actor Julia Roberts, and Grammy-nominated musician Rocky Dawuni to work with the Alliance and its partners.
