The Chairman of the June 3rd Disaster Victims Association, Thomas Sakyi, has revealed that the 10th anniversary of the tragic flood and fire incident is being fully funded by One Ghana Movement, not the government.
According to him, the commemoration has been observed annually from 2016 to 2023, except 2024, when efforts to secure support from the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) were unsuccessful.
In an interview with Happy Kaseɛbɔ during the 10th anniversary commemoration of the June 3rd disaster, he indicated that in 2025, AMA once again distanced itself from the event, leaving survivors without official backing.
Expressing his disappointment, Mr. Sakyi criticized the John Mahama administration, under whose tenure the June 3rd disaster occurred, for failing to honour its victims.
He called on the government to compensate survivors and recognize the tragedy just as they do for June 4th and May 9th.
