Residents of Akyem Abaam, a suburb of Akyem Kade in the Kwaebibirem municipality of Eastern region have lamented the horrible nature of the road from Akyem Kade to Akyem Asuom. They also called for support to complete their maternity ward health project which they started by themselves.

In an effort to build a maternity ward for pregnant women in their community, residents of Akyem Abaam have instituted a home coming festival titled “Abaapem” (thousands of canes) to solicit for funds because according to them, the place meant for maternity isn’t pleasant as other patients share same room with women in labour.

Assembly member of Akyem Abaam community, Madam Ophelia Ampaw called on the government, philanthropists, and NGOs to come and support them to complete their community maternity ward project to rescue women in the community and its environs.

She added that, despite the community not having a convenient maternity ward, pregnant women who are referred to Akyem Kade, the municipal capital also pass through hell due to the horrible nature of their road. She called on government to work on the road.
