Karela FC’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Elloeny Amande, has explained the club’s decision to move their home matches from Elmina to Tamale for the 2023/24 betapawa Ghana Premier League season.

He addressed the long-standing issue that had plagued the Elmina stadium for years, in an interview on Happy FM. “There are still some works to be done. The construction done by the previous contractors was not properly done, so whenever it rained, the pitch was always in a poor state.”

“In the wisdom of the club and the GFA,” Amande continued, “we had to decide to select an alternate stadium. The team had their preseason in Tamale for eight weeks, so they are familiar with the environment,” he added.

However, Amande was quick to clarify that this move was temporary. He emphasized, “But it is temporary while we sort out a permanent place.” This left the door open for fans and stakeholders to anticipate a brighter future for Karela FC, one that included a new, improved stadium in Elmina that would do justice to the team’s ambitions and the expectations of their loyal supporters.

Karela United, despite initially leading their matchday one fixture against Legon Cities FC, suffered a defeat. They will now play Berekum Chelsea in Tamale on September 24th, aiming to begin their new home ground tenure with a win.
