Kasapreko PLC has launched a new initiative called ‘STEM For Her’ aimed at inspiring and supporting young women in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) fields.

Solomon Owusu Bonnah, Head of HR for Kasapreko, explained the motivation behind the initiative to Happyghana.com saying, “We launched the STEM For Her initiative because our environment embraces STEM, and in our quest for diversity and inclusion, we decided to focus on women this time,” he said.

He revealed that the program will engage students from Senior High Schools and tertiary institutions, empowering them to pursue STEM courses and careers. “Our environment already provides these opportunities, so this initiative aims to further support and encourage them,” he added.

Additionally, the program aims to lead the way in promoting STEM among women and in industries where STEM is practiced.

“This initiative aligns with our sustainability principles. Three years ago, we launched the Kasapreko Excellence Awards in technical universities, targeting the best graduating engineering students. We provided them with national service opportunities, management training programs for two years, and industry skills, preparing them for future employment with us,” he explained.

Mr. Bonnah emphasized that the goal is to foster passion for STEM among students and women in the industry.

Dr. Ruhiya Abubakar, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at Ghana Communication Technology University, attended the launch and expressed her enthusiasm.

She noted that STEM is the future and has the potential to transform countries. “This initiative excites me because it shows that Kasapreko is on the right track,” she said.

She highlighted the importance of focusing on women, who are often underrepresented in STEM fields. “My hope is for the company to develop a model that supports women in STEM, ensuring they are well-treated and happy in their work,” she concluded.
