Managing Director of State Housing Company (SHC), Kwabena Ampofo Appiah has said that the Vice-Chancellor (VC) of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Professor Kwasi Obiri-Danso, should be sacked with immediate effect.

According to him, from what he has seen so far, he is convinced that the VC cannot do his work.Students of KNUST have vandalised school properties as part of Monday morning’s demonstration.

The students are protesting against what they call oppression from school authorities.

Speaking on Happy FM’s ‘Epa Hoa Daben’ show, Mr. Ampofo Appiah said, the Vice Chancellor has not exhibited leadership skills and has failed to resolve the students unrest which he [Ampofo Appiah] deemed could have been prevented from happening.

“I think the Vice Chancellor should be sack, I don’t think he can do the job from what I have seen happening currently in the university. This can be solved amicably without property being destroyed.”

He added that, “From what he [Vice Chancellor] is doing, one can say that he doesn’t want the success of the school. KNUST is not a small institution to be managed like the current VC is doing.”

On Friday, 19th October, a planned students’ customary procession was thwarted by campus-based security, but not without casualties.

Following this, a demonstration led by the Students’ Representative Council on Monday morning turned turbulent. Students mounted road blocks on campus and marched to other halls of residence to prevent their colleagues from attending lectures while others marched to the school administration area; vandalising property.
