CEO of Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, Dr. Yakubu Seidu Adam, has confirmed that kidney patients are currently receiving free dialysis treatment upon presenting their National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) cards.

Appearing before the Public Accounts Committee, Dr. Adam stated, “It’s true, patients are receiving free dialysis treatment with their cards.”

He explained that the initiative began as a pilot under the NPP administration and has since been fully rolled out.

“Once you come and show your NHIS card and go through the process, they give you the treatment for free. You don’t pay anything at all,” he said.

Dr. Adam acknowledged that while the service is active, administrative bottlenecks remain a challenge.

He added that, new patients must first be registered and issued a Korle-Bu card before accessing the treatment.
