The Member of Parliament for Kwesimintsim Constituency and member of the National Media Commission, Philip Fiifi Buckman, has assured journalists of protection against unwarranted attacks.
Speaking to Happy Kaseɛbɔ following the swearing-in of 18 commission members on May 28, 2025, Mr. Buckman stressed that the state bears responsibility for ensuring the safety of journalists.
He affirmed that the commission will collaborate with the government to uphold this mandate and prevent harm against media professionals.
However, he also voiced concern regarding the conduct of some media houses, criticizing some programs for failing to contribute meaningfully to national discourse.
He emphasized the importance of responsible journalism, noting that the commission will regulate media activities to ensure their content aligns with their duties and serves public interest.
Mr. Buckman urged journalists and media firms to prioritize the nation’s well-being over partisan affiliations, stressing the need for unbiased and responsible reporting in Ghana’s media landscape.
