Residents in the Ashaiamn municipality of the Greater Accra Region are up in arms against the some scrap dealers in the area who have resorted to the burning of used tyres for the metal linings.
Reports say some of the youth in the area have made it their stock in trade around the Tema –Ashaiman roundabout area to burn pile of used tyres for the metal linings for scrap.
Ishmael Narh, an witness told  ‘Epa Hoa Daben‘ show hosted  by Kwame Afrifa Mensah on Accra-based Happy FM that practice has become a norm in the area under watchful eyes of the city authorities in the municipality.
He said every evening  piles of the used tyres are burnt releasing thick smoke emissions into the atmosphere and into the rooms of residents in the area.
He said every morning huge sooth  deposits are spotted  on the AluZinc roofs of many in the area.
He said all attempts by the residents to have the youth in the area to desist from these hazardous acts have fallen on deaf ears as the number of piles kept increasing by the day.
He claimed all attempts to get the city authorities to also have the situation remedied has proved futile in the area.
The eye witness told the host of the show Kwame Afrifa Mensah that every night residents in the Tulaku area of Ashaiman had to inhale the thick smokes emanating from the operations of these youth in the area.
He said anytime the residents of the area complaint about their operations the youth  take confrontational stance contending that it is their livelihood and that there are no jobs in the area.
Meanwhile, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of the Ashaiman Municipal Assembly, Albert Okyere has indicated  his preparedness to Happy FM to have the situation corrected  in the area to bring respite to the residents.
