Maame Efua Houadjeto officially assumes office as CEO of GTA

The Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) has welcomed Mrs. Maame Efua Houadjeto as its newly appointed Chief Executive Officer.

Mrs. Maame Houadjeto, who was appointed by President John Dramani Mahama, officially assumed office on Monday, February 3, 2025 at the GTA head office in Osu, where she was warmly received by staff and executives.

During her inaugural meeting with the staff, she expressed her deep gratitude for the warm reception, deeming the role as an honor to lead the noble cause of the Ghana Tourism Authority.

Also present at the meeting was Mr. Akwasi Agyeman, whom she succeeds. Mrs. Houadjeto expressed her profound appreciation for his support and commitment to the Authority, stating, “I believe that the team that he put together that made him so successful is the same team that will support me to also make me successful.”

Notably, Mrs. Houadjeto becomes the second female CEO of the GTA since its establishment as the Ghana Tourist Board (GTB) in 1973. She is also the first female CEO since the GTB transitioned to an Authority under the Tourism Act, 2011 (Act 817).

About Mrs. Maame Efua Houadjeto

Mrs. Maame Efua Houadjeto, the newly appointed CEO of the Ghana Tourism Authority, is a seasoned leader with over two decades of experience spanning hospitality, media, real estate, and community development. Known for her passion for service and empowerment, she has made significant contributions to education and development, positively impacting countless lives in Ghana.

Her academic achievements reflect her commitment to excellence. She holds an MA in Governance and Leadership from GIMPA (2024), a BSc in Engineering Project Management (2016), and a PGDip in Engineering Project Management (2015) from Coventry University. She also earned a PGDip in Marketing from GIMPA (2008) and a Diploma in Communication, Journalism & Marketing from GIJ (1997). Mrs. Houadjeto completed her secondary education at Ola Secondary School, Ho, where she obtained her GCSE O & A Levels between 1984 and 1991.

Professionally, Mrs. Houadjeto has founded and led transformative initiatives, including Image Consortium, where she introduced Ghana’s premier property exhibition platform and launched the country’s first international real estate publication. She also established IE Design, a leading real estate and interior design firm. Her hospitality experience includes serving as Acting General Manager of MPlaza Hotel, where she sharpened her leadership and management skills.

A pioneer in event planning, Mrs. Houadjeto has organized groundbreaking exhibitions featuring international stakeholders, positioning Ghana’s industries on the global stage. As CEO of the Ghana Tourism Authority, she brings a wealth of expertise and a visionary approach to promoting Ghana’s culture and tourism while fostering sustainable growth for the sector.
