The Member of Parliament for Madina Constituency, Francis Xavier Sosu, has raised concerns about the devastating impact of illegal mining, known as galamsey, on Ghana’s environment and citizens.

Speaking in Parliament, Sosu emphasized the need for collective action to combat the menace, citing the alarming rate of water body destruction, pollution of rivers and streams, and the increasing number of deaths and accidents associated with galamsey.

Sosu stressed that the fight against galamsey is a matter of intergenerational equity, requiring responsible management of natural resources to ensure their sustainability for future generations.

He commended the government for initiatives like the Blue Water Guard and the revocation of LIs allowing mining in forest reserves, and urged Parliament to support these efforts.

The MP called on Ghanaians to join forces to combat galamsey, emphasizing that decisive action is needed to protect the environment and ensure a sustainable future. He stressed the need for a non-partisan approach to tackle the menace, highlighting the importance of collective responsibility in addressing the issue.
