The presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has accused the Jubilee House of orchestrating a coordinated fake news campaign on social media aimed at discrediting him and his initiatives.
Addressing residents of Asene Manso Akroso in the Eastern Region during a rally, Mr. Mahama alleged that the presidency has set up a unit dedicated to spreading misinformation to undermine his efforts and other political figures.
His remarks followed a disclaimer issued by Nana Kwabena Ofori, Chief of Akyem Akroso, denying reports that he had endorsed the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flag bearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. The chief clarified that his statements had been misrepresented, prompting Mr. Mahama to emphasize the dangers of fake news.
The NDC leader cautioned Ghanaians to verify information they come across on social media, especially as the December general elections approach. He attributed the spread of false information to the presidency, suggesting that such tactics aim to distort facts and mislead the public.
