The office of former President John Mahama has dared the Special Prosecutor’s office to invite him (Mahama) over allegations of diversion of state funds -situation they describe will be breached of Constitution-.
Speaking in an interview, Mahama’s Special Aide, Joyce Bawah Mogtari said “They should not even dare, and you can check the Ghanaian constitution. They won’t dare. The courts are not there to protect one individual. The courts are there to protect every citizen of Ghana.”
She described as false and surprising allegations that Mahama diverted $13 million meant for development into his private account.
Four private citizens have petitioned Special Prosecutor, Martin Amidu, to investigate the former President over claims that he held on to funds from E.O Group, a private oil firm, meant for the development of Western Region.
The 1992 constitution have indemnity provisions that exempt former presidents against prosecution.
She says the petitioners got it wrong by quoting Mr. Amidu to support their argument.
According to her, Mr Amidu speaks on perception without evidence.
“In any case, a statement that is borne out of conjecture, out of mischief, not founded in law; has no basis and it’s not even logical,”  she stressed.
Bawa, on the other hand, says it is the New Patriot Party’s (NPP) diversionary tactics to cover up for its bad and scandal-ridden government.
