Medical complications preventing Ken Ofori from coming-Ibrahim Adjei

Former Assistant Secretary to the Office of former President Akufo-Addo, Ibrahim Adjei, has reiterated that health complications, not defiance, are preventing former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta from appearing before the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP).

“He has to understand that it is not the unwillingness to travel, but the medical implications of travelling that are preventing Honourable Ken Ofori-Atta from coming. At no point has he said he won’t come,”.

His remarks come amid heightened scrutiny following the OSP’s directive for Ofori-Atta to report in person on Monday, June 2.

Failure to comply, the OSP warned, could result in him being declared a fugitive and the issuance of an INTERPOL Red Notice.

Adjei dismissed allegations of deliberate avoidance, emphasizing that Ofori-Atta’s legal team had submitted medical reports to both the OSP and the Human Rights Court detailing his condition and planned surgical procedures.

“Nobody can accuse him of a last-minute excuse. His medical situation predates the current request”.

Meanwhile, Ofori-Atta has requested a virtual session with the OSP due to his ongoing medical treatment.

The OSP is yet to respond to this request.
