Minister of Information Fatimatu Abubakar has reiterated her ministry’s commitment to supporting the growth and development of Ghana’s media. Speaking at the launch of the 3rd Cohort of the Media Capacity Enhancement Programme (MCEP) in Accra on August 22, she emphasized the ministry’s dedication to enhancing the media’s role as the fourth estate.

Fatimatu Abubakar highlighted that MCEP was first launched in November 2021, with its maiden edition taking place in Kumasi from January 10-13, 2022. The program was hosted by His Royal Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II and aimed to address media capacity challenges, promoting effective and quality reporting, professionalism, and accountability.

The minister noted that MCEP aligns with the ministry’s strategic objectives, focusing on specialized areas like health, education, and sports. She announced that the upcoming training session, the 3rd Cohort, will be held in a hybrid format, comprising 40 in-person and 60 virtual participants. The training is scheduled for September 10-13, 2024, at UNIMAC North Campus at Dworwulu, Accra. She highlighted applications will be opened from August 23 – 29 for all media houses to apply.

Fatimatu Abubakar emphasized that the program is open to all media houses across Ghana, encouraging participation to enhance the country’s media landscape. She reaffirmed the ministry’s support for the media, recognizing its vital role in promoting good governance and development.
