The Ministry of Youth and Sports is grateful to President Nana Akufo-Addo for leading the charge in soliciting support for the senior national team for the World Cup qualifiers.
The Ministry also thanked Ghanaians for the massive support they showed to the team in the two-legged encounter which also played a vital role in the team’s qualification.
A statement from the Ministry of Youth and Sports to show their appreciation to the President and Ghanaians read:
The Ministry’s foremost gratitude goes to the President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, for his unflinching support to the course of the Black Stars, especially qualification to the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup. Through the President’s personal commitment, the government ensured that both financial and logistical needs of the Black Stars were provided to smoothen Ghana’s journey to Qatar, right from onset.
We also commend various government agencies, including the Ghanaian High Commission in Nigeria, for the roles they played in Ghana’s journey, as well as the Parliament of our Republic, for the manner Member of Parliament publicly came together in support of the Black Stars.
The Ministry of Youth and Sports is also grateful to members of corporate Ghana, who positively responded to the President’s call at a fundraising breakfast meeting to support the Black Stars’ AFCON and World Cup campaign.
Finally, the nation yearned for this qualification and in the end, it was a beautiful victory made by Ghanaians for Ghanaians.
We cannot gloss over the patriotic manner Ghanaians supported the team in the first leg of the playoff in Kumasi, and across the country for the second leg in Abuja.
This victory is for the people of Ghana and Ministry is proud of our collective qualification as a people. Moving forward, we have to build on this success to ensure Ghana makes an impact at the World Cup in Qatar.
Ghana will know of its group opponents on Friday when the draw for the tournament is held in Qatar.
