Members of the Minority Caucus in Parliament, notably the Health Committee, have praised His Royal Majesty, Asante Hene Otumfuour Osei Tutu II, for his ground-breaking “Heal Komfo Anokye” project in a rare show of bipartisanship.

The initiative’s primary objective is to raise $10 million for the extensive renovation of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, a medical institution that has stood for 70 years but now finds itself in a dire state of disrepair.

Speaking at a press conference, Elizabeth Ofosu Agyare, Member of Parliament for Techiman North Constituency, expressed her gratitude towards OTUMFOUR for championing such a crucial cause. She highlighted the historical significance of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, established in 1954, which has served as a referral centre for nearly 10 regions. Agyare passionately conveyed her dismay at the current deplorable state of the hospital, emphasizing the urgent need for intervention.

Agyare did not confine her concerns solely to Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, as she drew attention to other neglected healthcare facilities. The abandoned Afari Hospital, left incomplete after the NDC administration departed, was a focal point of her critique. Additionally, she lamented the government’s failure to restore the actively working La General Hospital, which has remained in a state of collapse for an extended period.

In light of these challenges, Agyare called on the government to fulfill its promises, specifically pointing to the Agenda 111 project—a commitment to construct 111 hospitals. The Minority spokesperson urged swift action in completing the construction of the abandoned hospital facilities that have been left unattended, emphasizing the importance of maintaining and expanding the nation’s healthcare infrastructure.

The minority members assured Otumfuor and the public that they are fully committed to supporting initiatives that aim to improve the nation’s healthcare system.
