Minority Leader in Ghana’s ninth parliament Alexander Afenyo-Markin has assured the Ghanaian public of the minority’s commitment to cooperating with the committee during the vetting process of ministerial nominees.

Speaking before the commencement of today’s vetting, Afenyo-Markin emphasized the importance of resolving outstanding matters without rancor.

“The understanding we had in the morning was to have a discussion prior to this engagement. We have had a discussion to proceed with the vetting and so thereafter resolve all outstanding matters”.

“Honourable members, we shall proceed to do the vetting for our colleague”, Afenyo- Markin stated.

He reiterated that the minority does not seek to obstruct government business and is committed to fully cooperating with the government to form its cabinet and get all appointments through.

“We resolve all outstanding matters without any further rancor. We want to assure the Ghanaian people that our side does not seek to obstruct government business,” he added.

Afenyo-Markin acknowledged that the vetting process has been expedited, marking the first time nominees have been fast-tracked since 1992.

“We have gone outside the normal time. This is the first time that nominees have been fast-tracked since 1992”.

He concluded that, “as a leader of my side, I have taken full responsibility because I believe that governance is a continuum, and we should not frustrate it”.
