A Security Analyst, Adam Bonaa, has said that security agencies and other stakeholders in the country must take measures to solve the issue of kidnappings in the country.

According to him, steps such as proper identification of foreign nationals, along with a transparent property rental regime must be implemented to prevent foreign nationals from perpetrating crime.

In an interview on ‘Epa Hoa Daben‘ on Happy FM, Mr. Bona said “The way forward now is that we need to start looking at how we will properly identify those entering this country. We are not able to properly identify such persons, know how long they are coming to stay or if they are already into various crimes elsewhere. Sometimes they come and they feel the ground is so fertile to go into crime in this country. Once we are able to do this, it helps us to know who these people are. But unfortunately, the collaboration between the security agencies has not been too good. Has there been any education informing the landlords about those renting their premises without a residence permit? So these are some of the things we need to do to curb the surge in kidnappings.”

Mr. Bona has also called for a comprehensive upgrade of the security apparatus of most hotels in the country, to protect Ghana’s image as a safe tourist destination.

The fate of three families in Western Region continues to hang in the balance after their relatives went missing last year.

However, the Ghana Police Service has described as worrying the recent cases of kidnapping and attacks in the country.
