The mother of the late Defence Minister, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, is reported to be in stable condition after suffering emotional distress upon learning of her son’s tragic death earlier this week.
According to Eastern Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr. Mark Oliver Kevor, she has returned to her family home in Kwahu after receiving medical attention in Accra.
Dr. Kevor revealed that Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh personally intervened to ensure the grieving mother was swiftly transported to Accra for observation.
“Currently, his mom is fine. It is not easy losing your only child. It is not easy. At her age, she was expecting that she would rather lead and her son would give her a befitting burial. But now, it is a different story, one that she is obviously not prepared for.”
The late Dr. Omane Boamah, a respected figure in Ghana’s political and military landscape, died in a helicopter crash on August 6 while en route to Obuasi for an anti-illegal mining operation.
The incident claimed the lives of seven other individuals, sending shockwaves across the nation.
Dr. Kevor emphasized the importance of the swift medical response, noting that the elderly woman was deeply shaken by the news.
“She was brought down to Accra from Koforidua on Wednesday, but she is back with her Kwahu family. Her chiefs and family have been around. Also, the family of the father of Dr. Omane Boamah from Effiduase have also been around trying to receive visitors.”
The family home in Kwahu has since become a gathering point for mourners and sympathizers, with traditional leaders and extended relatives offering support.
