The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has announced plans to intensify surveillance and enforcement operations at nightclubs, pubs, entertainment venues and public events across the country throughout the festive season.

In a statement issued on Monday, the Commission said the move forms part of its ongoing efforts to combat drug abuse, trafficking and the distribution of illicit substances, particularly during periods marked by increased social activities and large public gatherings.

“The festive season often brings heightened risks of drug abuse,” NACOC noted, adding that it remains “committed to safeguarding public health, safety, and security through targeted enforcement and education.”

According to the statement signed by NACOC’s Acting Director, PNCO Francis Opoku Amoah, the operations will, where necessary, be carried out in collaboration with other law enforcement and regulatory agencies. The focus will include detecting and preventing the sale and use of illicit drugs, ensuring compliance with national narcotics laws, and educating both patrons and operators on the dangers associated with drug abuse.

The Commission urged venue owners, managers and event organisers to “cooperate fully with authorised officers” and to take proactive steps to ensure their premises remain drug-free. Members of the public were also encouraged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities related to drug use or trafficking.

NACOC further assured the public that all operations will be conducted “professionally, with full respect for human rights,” while maintaining “a firm stance against narcotic-related offences,” stressing that collective effort is key to ensuring a safe, healthy, and enjoyable festive season for all.
