The District Chief Executive of Gomoa East District Naana Ackom has emphasized the need for unity, reflection, and renewal as critical elements for national building whiles speaking earlier at today’s National Day for Prayers and Thanksgiving Service.

In the presence of dignitaries including the Honorable Member of Parliament, assembly members, religious figures, students, and market women, Madam Ackom highlighted the significance of July 1st—not just as a historical milestone, but as a living call to recommit to national development and communal harmony.

“Today is more than a date. It’s a reminder that we choose to shape our own destiny on July 1960”, she stated urging citizens to reflect on progress made and challenges yet to overcome.

Madam Ackom acknowledged local achievements such as improvements in schools, healthcare, markets, and road infrastructure.

However, she also pointed to ongoing concerns, including youth unemployment and economic pressures, calling for collective action to address them.

A centrepiece of her message was the “Triple R” theme: Reflect, Reset, and Renew. The DCE called on residents to pause and reflect on the past, reset relationships and priorities, and renew their energy and hope for a better future.

As part of the national observance, which was declared a National Day of Prayer by Ex-President John Dramani Mahama and Vice Presidential hopeful Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, Madam Ackom encouraged all families, religious institutions, and traditional leaders to pray for guidance, peace, and unity.

She reiterated that development cannot be achieved by the government alone. “From our market women to our farmers, our students to our chiefs every hand is needed on deck.”

Madam Ackom, poised to become Gomoa East’s first mayor under upcoming municipal reforms, assured the community of her continued commitment to inclusive leadership and sustainable growth.
