Member of Parliament for Bawku Central, Mahama Ayariga has said that they will obey the ruling of Speaker Alban Bagbin and not the Supreme Court.

The Supreme Court presided over by Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo directed Parliament to recognize four MPs ,whose seats were earlier declared vacant, to duly represent their constituents until determination of a case brought before the court.

However, Mahama Ayariga has said that they will ignore the ruling from the Supreme Court because they are not supposed to interfere in the work of Parliament.

He said they will continue to abide by the ruling of Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin until they are told otherwise.

“We will act according to Bagbin’s communique and until he communicates otherwise, we will go by his current decision and so if he comes and communicates to us what the court has ruled, we will act because we listen to the Speaker and not to the court.”

“We are ignoring the Supreme Court because it is not supposed to interfere in our work and the constitution is clear on that so it is surprising that the Supreme Court which is the apex of the law will go ahead and rule when it should have stayed off,” he said on Citi FM.

Meanwhile the members of the NDC caucus have said that they will occupy the majority side when Parliament resumes on Tuesday, October 22, 2024.
