NDC Primaries: Two candidates stepdown 24 hours to election

Two(2) candidates in the Parliamentary Primaries of the Opposition National Democratic Congress(NDC) in the Afram Plains South Constituency of the Eastern Region have stepped down 24 hours to the election slated for Saturday August 24 ,2019.

The two -Bismark Ofosu Amponsah and Emmanuel Mbeebi individually took the decision on grounds of personal reasons.

They have subsequently declared their support to Mark Oliver Kevor, the immediate past Eastern Regional Secretary of the Party tipped by political analysts to emerge the winner.

The two are exepected to make official announcement Saturday at the voting center having spoken on local radio stations confirming the decision.

The election will therefore be keenly contested by Joseph Appiah,a former MP,Mark Oliver Kevor,a Lecturer and immediate past Secretary, Eric Osei Owusu incumbent Member of Parliament.

A total of Thirty-One (33) candidates are contesting in all 11 constituencies out of which 7 are females.

A statement issued Friday by the Regional Secretary ,Cudjoe Adukpo outlined the designated voting centers and other arrangements.

NATIONAL DEMOCRATIC CONGRESS EASTERN REGIONAL SECRETARIAT

NOTICE OF PARLIAMENTARY ELECTIONS IN SELECTED CONSTITUENCIES.

The Eastern Regional Executive Committee of the National Democratic Congress wishes to bring to the notice of all stakeholders and the general public, the party’s readiness for the conduct of parliamentary elections in eleven (11) constituencies namely: Asuogyaman, Lower Manya Krobo, Upper Manya Krobo, Afram Plains North, Afram Plains South, Upper West Akim, Nsawam-Adoagyiri, Suhum, Ayensuano, Abirem and Abuakwa North.

Notice should be taken of the following.

  1. The Date for the election is Saturday August 24, 2019.
  2. Voting starts at exactly 7am and ends at 5pm in all eleven constituencies, except Abuakwa North.
  3. In the case of Abuakwa North Constituency, there will be a mini conference where the Electoral Commission will declare the party’s sole candidate duly elected unopposed.
  4. The following are the approved voting centers in the eleven constituencies:
    Asuogyaman- V.R.A Complex, Akosombo

Lower Manya Krobo- Parish Hall premises, Agormanya (Opposite Municipal Assembly).

Upper Manya Krobo- Akatawia Junction, Sekesua.

Afram Plains North- Roman Mission, Donkorkrom

Afram Plains South- L/A School, Kwesi Fante

Upper West Akim- Asantewaa Social Centre, Adeiso

Nsawam/Adoagyiri- St. Martins School, Nsawam

Suhum- Modern Business College (MOBUSCO), Suhum

Ayensuano- Presbyterian Church, Asuboi

Abirem- NDC Party Office, New Abirem

Abuakwa North- Nelsban Palace Hotel, Tafo

  1. Delegates are to carry along their NDC Party card or any other valid I.D card as identification proof for voting.
  2. Security at and around the voting centres shall solely be the duty of the Ghana Police Service. No private security shall be allowed.
  3. The elections shall be conducted by the Electoral Commission of Ghana. Accordingly, all election materials are in the custody of the Commission.

We are by this release, urging stakeholders to abide by all issued directives to make the primaries a very successful exercise on Saturday.

The Secretariat wishes all aspirant the best of luck. Let us come of these primaries as a stronger and more united party, ready for Victory 2020.
