The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has advised the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to maintain unity and actively engage its former presidents—John Agyekum Kufuor and Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as it works to rebuild after its 2024 electoral loss.
Delivering solidarity remarks at the NPP’s National Delegates Conference on Saturday, July 19, at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium, the NDC’s Director of Logistics and Protocol, Ludwig Hlordze, said the NPP must leverage the wisdom of its living former leaders.
“We hope your party fully appreciates the importance of having two surviving former presidents. Consult them consistently to help rebuild and strengthen your front. Don’t push them aside,” Hlordze urged.
He emphasized the need for a unified and credible opposition, saying Ghana’s democracy depends on it.
“Ghana needs a strong opposition to support democratic growth. Unity is essential for national development,” he added.
Hlordze also commended the NPP for taking bold steps to reposition itself through internal reforms, describing the current political moment as a “national reset.”
“As political parties, we must also reset our ideas, policies, and programs. We are glad to see the NPP, as the largest opposition party, take that bold step.”
He called on all political actors to safeguard the country’s democratic institutions and ensure a better future for the next generation.
“We must leave behind a legacy of opportunity. Let’s combine our resources to reset state institutions and strengthen our democracy.”
