Recently elected scribe of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justin Frimpong Kodua, has declared the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), will never emerge victorious in any general elections if all eligible voters turn up at polling stations nationwide.

According to him, the NDC does not win elections based on propaganda but on the fact that most voters refuse to vote.

“We lose elections because of our own people and not the propaganda of the NDC. If all supporters of the NPP come out to vote, the NDC can never win an election in Ghana,” he disclosed.

Citing historical examples, he indicated the NPP always wins elections with wide margins but only lose by slim margins.

In the 2000 presidential election run-off, the NPP won the with 56.90% of total votes cast with the NDC trailing with 43.10% of total votes. The NPP retained power in 2004 with 52.45% of votes with the NDC losing with 44.64% of votes.

In the 2008 presidential election run-off, the NPP lost with 49.53% of votes and the NDC won with 50.47% of votes. They retained power with 51.2% of votes in 2012.

The NPP came to beat the NDC in the 2012 elections polling 53.6% of votes cast with the NDC gaining 44.6% of votes. The NPP retained power in the 2020 elections with 51.2% of all votes as opposed to the NDC’s 47.2% of votes.

Speaking to Don Kwabena Prah on Happy98.9FM’s ‘Epa Hoa Daben’ political talk show, he asserted that this trend proves Ghanaians prefer the NPP over the NDC. “Ghanaians only punish us because of our internal issues as they discourage voters.”

He admits the NPP can only break the 8 through unity and dedication.
