A Non-Governmental Organization that deals with supporting girl child education and empowering the youth, Auntie is Merkezi Organisation (AIMO) has expressed disappointment in the current violence that characterized a peace walk in the Odododiodio constituency.
On the 25th of October,2020, what was considered to be a peaceful health walk between the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) ended up bringing chaos and hurting innocent people.
Speaking on the incidence, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Auntie is Merkezi Organisation (AIMO), Gladys Biney expressed how disappointed she was in the Ghanaian youth when she told host Samuel Eshun on the Happy Morning Show “I’m really disappointed and I’ll tell the youth to bow their heads in shame. The youths of the country have decided to always do campaigns rather than thinking of becoming future leaders which is very sad".
According to her, she doesn’t understand how the youths in that area were happy about their constituency being tagged a hotspot for violent acts and to her that’s a very disappointing thing for them to have done.
Relating this to previous years research shows that in the years 2012,2016 and presently 2020 the constituency has been noted for violence during every general election and this always seems to take place during peace walks.
Despite the news going around about peaceful elections, this didn’t stop the people of Odododiodio constituency from engaging in such violence.
Gladys Biney advised the youth to think about themselves and the effects such acts can have on them, their families and their future before engaging themselves in such actions.
