The National Identification Authority (NIA) has announced that it received 700,000 blank cards on Monday, February 17, 2025, from its technical partners, after weeks of negotiations led by the Acting Executive Secretary.

According to a statement from NIA, these blank cards will be utilized to print the backlog of records, including first issuance, card replacement, and updates of personal information, which have been pending since 2023.

“In line with government’s objective of ensuring that Ghanaians aged 15 and above have the Ghana Cards for the purposes of identification and verification, the Actg. Executive Secretary has constituted a technical team to expedite the printing of the backlogs and to oversee its distribution to the various district offices for on-ward issuance”.

The statement assured the public of being informed in due course when the card issuance will commence in the district offices across the country.

“The public is once again reminded of more than 600,000 Ghana cards that have been printed but remain uncollected at the various regional and district offices since 2018”.

The statement assured that, efforts are underway to develop an efficient system to distribute these cards for their intended use.
