The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) said Wednesday that it has launched an investigation on Nigerian singer, Darlignton Okoye, known in showbiz circles as Speed Darlington following the emergence of a controversial video in which he claimed to have had a sexual encounter with a 15-year-old girl.

Local reports indicate that the Nigerian singer reportedly admitted to engaging in unlawful conduct involving a minor – which has stirred a massive wave of criticism by the Nigerian social media community.

Following the nationwide flaking, the artiste has been said to have apologized for making such comments and stated that the reach of his music highly depends on controversy. “I’m an artiste, I need controversy to eat. If dem no carry you for mouth, you are not getting booked.” he stated.

Despite the clarity, NAPTIP in a statement released Wednesday on X, confirmed that its Cybercrime Response Team had begun analysing the viral video along with other related content attributed to the singer.
