No NDC MP should step foot in parliament if recalled– Asiedu Nketia

The National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has instructed the party’s Members of Parliament to boycott any emergency recall of Parliament, alleging that such sessions are aimed at advancing corrupt agendas.

Speaking to supporters in the Western Region on Saturday, November 16, Asiedu Nketia argued that with the 2024 general elections on the horizon, the majority caucus has no credible justification for reconvening Parliament, accusing them of pursuing dubious motives instead.

“Let no NDC MP step foot in Parliament. If they like, they can go and burn the sea. There’s no work in Parliament that can be described as an emergency. This is just an avenue for them to continue the rampant corruption they’ve engaged in for the past eight years,” he said.

He noted that they want to push their corrupt agenda with just three weeks to go which they won’t agree to.

“We will not engage them today or tomorrow. The judges can say whatever they want, but Parliament has its own rules, and we will abide by those,” he added.

Asiedu Nketia’s comments come in the wake of a Supreme Court ruling on Tuesday, November 12, which overturned Speaker Alban Bagbin’s decision to declare four parliamentary seats vacant.

The ruling upheld a challenge by Majority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin, with five justices asserting that a parliamentary seat can only be declared vacant if a legislator officially joins another political party while retaining their seat.

However, two justices dissented, arguing that the Supreme Court lacked jurisdiction in the case, highlighting differing interpretations of the Court’s authority.
