The Regional Northern Minister, Alhaji Shani Alhassan Saibu says, the region has achieved a 98% transition rate from Junior High School (JHS) to Senior High School (SHS) for the 2023/2024 academic year due to the Free SHS Policy.

Speaking at the Regional Town Hall Meeting and Exhibition at the GNAT hall in Tamale, he attributed the success to the government’s Free Senior High School Policy.

According to him, the Free SHS policy since its implementation in 2017, has significantly increased access to education in the Northern Region, especially for students from low- income families who were previously unable to afford the cost of education.

He commended government for investing hugely in the construction and provision of some educational needs of the various institutions within the Region.

Notable among them are the state of the art multipurpose building at the Nyankpala campus of the University for Development Studies which was commissioned by His Excellency the President on 22nd
August, 2024, construction of school infrastructure such as classrooms, dormitories, and administration blocks as well as infrastructure projects across all its 16 Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies.
