Deputy Minister for Education and Member of Parliament for Builsa South, Dr. Clement Abas Apaak, has called on current residents of Commonwealth Hall at the University of Ghana to preserve the prevailing peace on campus as the Hall prepares to celebrate its 70th anniversary next year.
In a Facebook post following the 2026 Vandals Jamboree held at the Bacchus Gardens in Commonwealth Hall on Saturday, August 1, Dr. Apaak said he was honoured to represent Old Vandals serving in the Executive and Legislature during the annual gathering.
According to him, he used the occasion to thank the University of Ghana management for its role in restoring calm after years of disagreements and urged current Vandals to remain measured and circumspect.
“Nothing should disturb the peace. It is in the interest of our fraternity and the University of Ghana to maintain this positive relationship as we work towards the celebration of the 70th Anniversary of Commonwealth Hall next year,” he wrote.
Dr. Apaak described this year’s Jamboree as particularly significant because it marked the first time in five years that the annual event had been held at Commonwealth Hall following the resolution of the impasse that forced previous editions to be organised off campus.
He also highlighted the reopening of the Old Vandals Association (OVA) Global Head Office, which had been closed during the period of the impasse, as another major milestone.
The Deputy Education Minister further noted that six of the seven students who were dismissed during the conflict had been reinstated and had resumed their academic studies, while expressing sadness over the passing of the seventh student.
Reflecting on the progress made, Dr. Apaak commended the collective efforts of Old Vandals serving in the Executive, Legislature and Judiciary, as well as the National Council of Elders, the National Executive of OVA, and regional and international chapters for their contributions to restoring normalcy.
He also paid tribute to Commonwealth Hall’s legacy, describing it as a fraternity that has produced distinguished leaders across politics, academia, business, law, the media, security services, sports and other sectors.
Dr. Apaak concluded by expressing gratitude to the Old Vandals Association for honouring him with an award in recognition of his contributions to the fraternity, saying it was the most cherished recognition he had received throughout his career.
