The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has accused the Mahama led government of inciting public disaffection for former state officials under the guise of fighting corruption.

The NPP in an address to the media on Wednesday, March 26, 2025 at its headquarters in Accra, where Director of Communications Richard Ahiagbah condemned the technique used by the government to hold former state officials accused of corruption.

He noted that combatting corruption is an initiative the NPP is familiar with, highlighting the establishment of the Office of the Special Prosecutor and increased funding for the Auditor General to effectively undertake its operations. “Holding former state officials accountable is an engrained value of the New Patriotic Party. We believe in holding public servants or persons who have been appointed to take public office accountable.” he said.

Mr. Ahiagbah explained that the “evidence carried” by the government on former state officials who have engaged in corruption under the NPP regime are not substantial within the confines of the law, hence have taken to social media to make these persons unpopular. The government is not interested in fighting corruption.

“The government is rather interested in defaming the New Patriotic party the evidence cannot stand the test of any competent courtroom so they have decided to present their evidence on social media.”

He averred that the government in addition to this has made appointments of certain individuals into particular state roles that pertain to law and security to ‘intimidate and harass’ former NPP state officials who he described as targets of the government. “…that is why they positioned persons like Richard Jakpa to use all means necessary to intimidate and harass Ghanaians with impunity. Ghanaians will judge this government with its performance and not how it has defamed these individuals.”
