The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has accused Retired Commissioner of Police Nathan Kofi Boakye of collaborating with the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to escalate insecurity in the Ashanti Region, a key stronghold of the NPP.

Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday, November 20, the NPP’s National Organiser, Henry Nana Boakye, dismissed allegations by the NDC that the NPP was working with Brigadier General Michael Opoku to rig elections in the Ashanti Region. He described the claim as a deliberate attempt by the NDC to create fear and panic, suppress voter turnout, and disrupt the electoral process.

Nana Boakye further alleged that NDC members, led by Retired Commissioner of Police Nathan Kofi Boakye, are orchestrating plans to destabilize the Ashanti Region and other NPP strongholds. He claimed their strategy involves engaging armed robbers and other criminal elements to increase incidents of robbery and kidnapping in the run-up to the elections.

“We are also well informed that some NDC members, led by a retired Commissioner of Police, Nathan Kofi Boakye are coordinating efforts to escalate insecurity in the Ashanti region and other NPP strongholds. This plan includes engaging armed robbers and other criminal elements to increase cases of robbery and kidnapping in the days leading up to the elections”, he said.

He assured the public that security agencies are fully aware of these plans and are taking necessary measures to ensure peace and order. He urged Ghanaians to remain calm, stating that the NPP would continue to expose and counter the NDC’s alleged schemes.

“We are assured that the security forces are on top of this, and Ghanaians have very little to worry about, but we need to make Ghanaians aware of the evil intentions of the opposition party, an opposition that has used the last four years to frustrate government business, and want to use the defeat that awaits them on December 7 to disturb our democracy”, he said.
