A heavy police presence has been established in Asesewa, located in the Upper Manya Krobo district of the Eastern Region, following a violent clash between supporters of NPP Parliamentary Candidate Joseph Tetteh and National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament (MP) Bismark Tetteh Nyarko. The increased police presence aims to maintain order and prevent further escalation of the conflict.

The dispute started when NDC supporters spotted District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP) equipment bearing NPP logos parked at the hotel of the NPP candidate, which they took as a provocative gesture, leading to a heated confrontation.

An attempt by NDC supporters to photograph the equipment sparked a heated confrontation with NPP supporters, culminating into a violent altercation that left multiple individuals injured, including the NPP chairman of constituency.

Local police initially responded to the scene, but the situation proved too intense, prompting them to request backup from the regional command. The regional command subsequently deployed the counter-terrorism unit to quell the violence and restore order.

In the aftermath of the incident, NPP supporters staged a procession, carrying the DRIP equipment through the main streets of Asesewa before ultimately delivering it to the district assembly.

Meanwhile, the NPP’s communication bureau in the constituency denounced the purported attack on their chairman and demanded a swift and thorough investigation into the violent clash.
