The General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justin Frimpong Kodua, has assured party members that the introduction of an online membership registration platform will not allow political opponents to infiltrate the party’s register or participate in its internal elections.
The platform is being introduced to address challenges faced by some Ghanaians who wish to join the party but are unable to register at their respective polling stations due to time constraints.
Speaking at a press briefing on Thursday, March 12 at the party’s headquarters in Accra, Mr. Frimpong Kodua explained that although the online system is open to all interested persons, measures will be put in place to ensure that only verified members of the party can vote or contest positions in internal elections.
He noted that some individuals had raised concerns that the online registration process could allow non-members or supporters of other political parties to register in the NPP’s database.
Mr. Frimpong Kodua stressed that every Ghanaian has the right to register as a member of the NPP if they choose to join the party.
He indicated that even the National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, or any other member of the NDC could register to join the NPP if they wished, but added that strict verification processes would determine who qualifies to vote or contest in internal party elections.
The NPP General Secretary also announced that in response to concerns about possible attempts by some party executives to control the registration process, physical registration at polling stations will be conducted on weekends throughout the month of March.
