NPP fires back at NDC over voters register allegations

The General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justin Frimpong Kodua, has strongly criticized the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for their persistent allegations regarding the Voters Register.

The NDC has repeatedly requested that the Electoral Commission should (EC) provide them with the register ahead of the elections, claiming it contains numerous ghost names. They have even called for an independent audit of the register. On Monday, September 9, NDC Chairman John Asiedu Nketia announced plans to stage a demonstration against the EC on September 17.

Addressing the media on Tuesday, September 10, Kodua dismissed the NDC’s claims, stating that it is unrealistic to expect the register to be completely free of deceased individuals’ names, given that deaths occur daily. He argued that the EC cannot be expected to conduct village-by-village searches to identify and remove all deceased persons from the register.

Kodua accused the NDC of attempting to discredit the EC and create unnecessary fear among Ghanaians ahead of the December polls. He expressed confidence in the legitimacy of the register and the EC’s efforts, urging the NDC to cease their “noise-making” and allow the electoral process to unfold peacefully.
