The New Patriotic Party (NPP) is all set to conduct parliamentary primaries today, Saturday, January 27, in constituencies where the party currently has incumbent Members of Parliament (MPs).

Over 104 constituencies across the country will be involved in these elections.

The party’s General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, confirmed on Thursday, January 25, that all necessary preparations, including the readiness of ballots and election materials, had been completed and were set for distribution.

Speaking in an interview, Mr Kodua expressed confidence in the efficiency of the election process, anticipating its completion by the 2 pm closing time.

“For now, I can tell you for sure that our primaries will come off on Saturday. Everything is set. Election materials including ballot papers and other accoutrements are ready to be transported, he said.

He assured stakeholders that the party was committed to a smooth and timely exercise, without foreseeing any significant delays.

Out of the total number of 373 aspirants, who filed to contest the primaries, after vetting, 29 are going unopposed, 11 were disqualified, two were referred to the National Executive Committee (NEC), two stepped down, one incomplete form and two did not show up for vetting leaving the qualified aspirants for the primaries at 326.

Ahead of the exercise, the party has announced that the Ghana Police Service will assume full responsibility for security arrangements during the polls.

The General Secretary stressed that no private security personnel or machinery would be permitted at the election grounds, and anyone violating this directive would face consequences from the police.
