A member of the communications team of the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Bernard Amim-Piesie has accused the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) of overrunning all educational facilities across the country to sustain their flagship educational programme, Free Senior High.
‘I can tell you on authority that many facilities that were constructed by the ex-president as part of the progressively Free Senior High School policy have been turned into boarding facilities among others for students.
In certain cases, bathrooms and toilet facilities have been turned into dormitories for boys and girls just to sustain the policy’.
Bernard Anim –Pisie made this accusation on the ‘Epa Hoa Daben’ show hosted by Kwame Afrifa-Mensah on Happy FM in Accra.
He said NPP is dangerously overrunning all educational facilities in the secondary schools just to sustain the rising numbers hence strange diseases killing some of the student as population has risen in the matter of the ‘KUMACA’ in the Kumasi metropolis of the Ashanti Region .
He explained that hostels that were built by the NDC ‘s administration have all been turned into something in one way or other the for the swelling numbers recorded as part of the policy.
It is in this vein, he flaunted the ex-president John Dramani Mahama as one of the best presidents who was responsible for the constructional of educational infrastructure in the country.
According to him, the NPP should have thought-through the project before introducing it on large skills across the country.
The party could have just piloted the policy with the day students before gradually doing boarding adding that students for instance in Aburi and its environs in the Eastern Region could be bused to attend class with the time for attending classes extended a little bit to made way for the bus delaying.
This, he said would go a long way in assisting the policy instead of the mass boarding without the needed facilities.
Now students are made to sleep in hostels without any proper supervision from their teachers.
‘No wonder some schools are beginning to record high levels of teenage pregnancy cases across the country’ he alleges
