The Minority Leader in Parliament, Cassiel Ato Forson, has linked the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) defeat in the just ended December 7 general elections to dissatisfaction among Ghanaians over poor governance and economic mismanagement.

During a Parliamentary session on Monday, December 16, Ato Forson described the election outcome as a wake-up call for politicians. Highlighting the power electorates wield, Mr. Forson shared electorates are key to holding leaders accountable for unmet promises.

He asserted that the NPP’s loss was a direct reflection of public frustration with the government’s performance over the years.

Ato-Forson further outlined several critical areas where the NPP failed to address the needs and expectations of the people.

“Ghanaians have clearly shown that they cannot be taken for granted and that when it matters the most, they will either reward those in office or punish those in office.

“The NPP has been punished for its poor governance, economic mismanagement, greed, arrogance, impunity, disrespect, lawlessness and persecution of political opponents”.

“The lesson of what happened to the NPP and the outgoing government is that the political class should not take the people of Ghana for granted”, Mr. Ato Forson emphasized.

He went on to criticize what he described as the arrogance and impunity of certain government officials, suggesting that their conduct played a significant role in their electoral defeat.

He pointed to instances of alleged corruption and nepotism, arguing that such practices distanced the government from ordinary Ghanaians.

According to Mr. Ato Forson, the NPP leadership’s perceived lack of accountability and disregard for public sentiment were key factors that contributed to their downfall.
