The former Member of Parliament (MP) for Akwatia in the Eastern Region on the ticket of the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Baba Jamal has described the president’s fight against ‘galamsey’ as a fight against Ghanaian miners.
He said the president’s fight against illegal mining activities in the country has turn to create massive unemployment for Ghanaians small scale miners at the time he is  promising to give them jobs.
‘’As we speak now there are over one million Ghanaian small scale miners languishing at home because of the president’s selective fight on illegal mining.
According to him, the exercise has rather paved the way for the foreigners made up of Indians among others to mine the resource of the country whereas the Ghanaian small scale miners have been made to fold up their businesses.
He said small scale mining is legal per the laws of the country and what is  illegal is ‘galamsey’  where  a group of people mining in river bodies without license whatsoever adding that must be stopped and not the small scale mining.
He claimed that the ‘galamsey’ fight has failed woefully and rather paved the way for the foreigners to take over the mining sector of the economy.
He stressed that ninety –five percent of the people currently in the mining sector now are foreigners whereas the small scale miners who are Ghanaians have been made to fold up by the ‘operation vanguard’ team.
THe former MP made this statement in an interview Kwame Nkrumah Tikesea on Accra-based Okay FM.
The said government has woefully failed the Ghanaian small scale miners for foreigners to takeover their jobs   .
As we speak over 1.5 million Ghanaians small scale miners have been rendered jobless whereas the foreigners are mining under the watchful eyes of the ‘operation vanguard’ team in the country.
He said the situation has led to over some three million people who benefit from the activities of the small scale miners to also lose their jobs.
I told them that the operations will failed and the likes of Wontumi, the Ashanti Regional chairman of the NPP accused me of engaging in ‘galamsey.’
